Only 39 seconds apart, the twin earthquakes that devastated many area in both Caracas, Veroes and beyond happened a few minuets past 6PM on June 24th. Immediately upon hearing KDR’s earthquake app blaring, now some 7 days later, Krishna Disaster Relief has spent everyday involved in arranging for disaster relief aid.
Helping to organize our efforts on the ground, please meet Amilry Vitale (Shakti d.d.) who lives at ground zero. She immediately put on her Krishna Disaster Relief “hat” and has taken charge of receiving and distributing the funds we are sending. She has already delivered the first wave of relief from our initial donation, and is preparing the same for the second wave from the funds that arrived today (June 30th). We are preparing to send an even larger disaster-relief package in a few hours.
As far as the ISKCON temple in Caracas, it survived by Krishna’s mercy, however a building directly across from it collapsed. Two nights ago, other damaged buildings came crashing down due to a tremendous rain storm that flooded many parts of Caracas.
As of June 30, 2026, the latest figures show at least 1,943 people dead and over 10,571 injured. Tens of thousands remain missing — a missing persons tracker lists more than 43,000 unaccounted for, with the UN estimating over 50,000. More than 15,800 people are displaced.
The hardest-hit areas are La Guaira and Caracas. Nearly 800 buildings collapsed, with widespread damage to infrastructure — NASA data suggests over 58,000 buildings were heavily damaged or destroyed in coastal areas. Hospitals are overwhelmed, and rescue efforts continue despite challenges like aftershocks and limited equipment. The true toll is still rising as recovery efforts continue. Amilry (Shakt d.d.) is in contact with a doctor within her family and will be sending firsthand reports as soon as they are available.
Krishna Disaster Relief has worked hard to create a trustworthy and transparent path to send funds to Venezuela. This was all accomplished in the most difficult of times, again thanks to Amilry’s hard work on the ground.
