Chapter 20 - Wearing Two Hats
You already know what a SWAT team is. This is a special police unit that is called into action during hostage and other dangerous situations. The interesting thing about the individual members of a SWAT team is that normally they are not performing in this capacity. Instead they are your regular, run-of-the-mill cops, performing ordinary duties. But they do have special training and equipment. They carry a special radio and when it goes off they simply put on a different hat. Yes, they are still police officers but for a very special purpose and period of time, they are now identified as members of an elite force.
Later, when the emergency has been resolved they put away all their SWAT gear and again take up their normal duties, wearing the hat & gear of an ordinary police officer.
ISKCON already has in place its "Food For Life" and temple structures, consisting of many devotees, vehicles, kitchens, volunteers, etc. These various Food For Life programs and temples are located throughout America and the world. In the same way that an ordinary traffic cop can instantly change hats (roles) during an emergency, in a similar way anyone working in Food For Life, can, during a disaster, put on a Krishna Disaster Relief hat. Devotees not necessarily working with Food For Life can also put on a Krishna Disaster Relief hat. Any volunteer can, also.
This concept instantly creates a worldwide, Krishna Disaster Relief structure. This is a legitimate way of creating Krishna Disaster Relief's workforce and organization. I believe that Krishna Disaster Relief already exists. I believe that Krishna is already the Greatest Hero. It is simply a matter of demonstrating this; simply a matter of presenting Lord Krshna as He is. Then all of this will quickly manifest.
Disasters don't occur every day. Many locations around the world are seldom hit by a major disaster. Devotees in these areas may rarely put on their Krishna Disaster Relief hats. Nonetheless, they can be trained to do so; be made aware of the program; be connected & counted on paper; be prepared; and they can participate in other ways such as the monthly financial support I have been mentioning.
